How to Find Out Who Your Competitors Are

Competition is an inevitable part of any business, whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned veteran. Knowing who your competitors are and what they’re up to can be the difference between success and failure. Competition is good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s also good to keep a close eye on what they are up to. Local competition can be a great thing when you have enquiries for larger projects and need someone to collaborate with you on it. If you already know, and have a relationship with local decorators, if they have the same ethic as you then they are your perfect first port of call. This guide will provide you with tips on how to identify your competitors and help you stay one step ahead.

Do a google search of decorators near you

It’s easy to do a generic Google search to find out who your competition is. Search the phrase “decorators near me” or “interior decorator near me” to get an idea of the decorators in your area. Google maps will give you those closest to you, but also look at the ad/paid results too as this will give you an idea of who is paying to rank higher in google. Then look at the first few pages of google to see who comes up.
Depending on how large an area you live you can even focus down on “decorator in (your town)” and see if anyone different comes up.

Perform a Competitive Analysis.

Competitor analysis is an important aspect of any business, as it helps to answer the question “Who are my competitors?” By analysing the strengths and weaknesses of rival decorating companies and their offerings, you can better understand the market and identify key players in the industry. By understanding the competition, you can develop a more effective strategy and position yourself in a way that sets you apart from others in the market offering the same services as you and your business. Competitor analysis can also help decorators identify opportunities to offer unique and innovative services, such as kitchen spraying, venetian or spray plaster as well as areas where they can improve their existing offerings. Additionally, by staying up-to-date on industry trends and changes, decorators can stay ahead of the competition and continue to grow their business.
A competitive analysis should also be done regularly so that you can track the actions of your competitors and make any necessary pivots for each of your own products, services, or campaigns. Looking into things like your competitors’ product launches, marketing materials, new initiatives and other developments will give you inside knowledge of what they are doing to try to stay ahead. This type of monitoring will also help you assess their success — or failure — at staying ahead of the competition. Knowing who your competitors are and understanding their strategies is essential in helping you determine how best to go about setting yourself apart from them in order to achieve success with your own business.

Research Your Competition’s Social Platforms.

Social media can be one of the quickest ways to learn about your competitors. Look at platforms like facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and even Pinterest to see which type of content they post, how often they engage with their followers, and what topics they’re focusing on. This can give you an idea of their strategies and help you identify potential opportunities that you may be able to take advantage of. Look at their likes and comments as this will give you a good idea of who and how many people are engaging in their content. This will help you plan your own content and see what’s working for them and what’s not – means less work for you so always a win.

Check out other decorators websites

Once you have worked out who your local competitors are, you can start looking at their website. Browse through other decorators websites and take note of the themes and ideas they’re using in their work. Are there any signature details or styles that set them apart from others? By taking note of these things, you can get a better idea of what kind of work sets each competitor apart and gain inspiration for your own strategy. How much information are they giving away, what’s on their website compared to yours? Do they have any pricing information on there, look at reviews and past project to see how they compare to you and your business model, this will help you determine whether they are truly competitors or just another decorator in your area.
